Metro 2 account status code 88: government claim filed
The loan defaulted and was backed by a government guarantee or insurance, and the lender has filed a claim with the agency for the insured part of the balance. It shows up on certain federally insured or guaranteed loans. A payment rating goes with it to show how delinquent the loan was.
How it shows on your report
Something like "Claim filed with government" or "Insurance claim," sometimes followed later by an account from the agency or its collector.
How it affects your score
A serious negative, since a claim only follows a default.
What to check
Once the government pays the claim, the lender's tradeline should generally stop showing the balance as owed to it, and any remaining debt should appear under the agency or its collector. The same balance owed to both is a double count. The delinquency date on any new tradeline should match the original default.
