Metro 2 special comment code M: closed by the credit grantor
The lender, not you, closed the account. The remark says nothing by itself about why: lenders close accounts for inactivity, risk, suspected fraud or other reasons. It's the lender-side counterpart to the consumer-closed compliance code XA, and furnisher guidance pairs one of the two with a closed account.
How it shows on your report
A remark like "Closed by credit grantor" or "Account closed by issuer."
How it affects your score
The remark isn't a negative on its own. Losing the card's limit can raise your utilization.
What to check
If you closed the account yourself, it should carry the consumer-closed code instead. A lender-closed card that was paid down to $0 shouldn't show any amount past due, and the closed date should match the closure notice or the last statement you received.
