Metro 2 special comment code CI: closed due to inactivity
The lender closed the account because it wasn't being used. Card issuers close long-idle accounts on their own schedules, and federal rules don't require advance notice for a closure. The remark explains why a card you never asked to close shows as closed by the lender.
Sources describe this code with some variation. Public documentation doesn't agree on every detail of how special comment code CI is used, so treat this as a general explanation. If it's on your report, the company that reported it can tell you exactly what it meant.
How it shows on your report
A remark like "Closed due to inactivity."
How it affects your score
The remark isn't a negative, but losing the limit can raise your utilization.
What to check
If you were using the card, the reason is wrong. A card closed for inactivity should show a $0 balance and no lates. If you want to keep a little-used card open, using it now and then is the usual way to avoid this.
