Metro 2 payment rating code L: charged off when reported
When the account's status describes an ending, such as transferred, paid or closed, deed in lieu or foreclosure, this rating says the account was charged off at that moment. Lenders also send the rating with other statuses, where it should simply agree with them.
How it shows on your report
Rarely shown as its own field. It shapes how a closed account's final status reads and the last month in the payment grid.
How it affects your score
Shows the account ended or transferred while delinquent, which counts as a late in payment history even though the account is now closed.
What to check
A charge-off rating should line up with a charge-off in the payment grid and a 97 or 64 status. If the debt was sold, the lender's balance should be $0. The charge-off doesn't restart the seven-year clock, which runs from 180 days after the delinquency began.
