Payment history profile characters
Metro 2 payment history profile character G: collection
The account was in collection status that month, either with the lender's own collection department or an outside agency. Once this character appears, the months that follow usually keep showing collection until the account is paid, settled or sold, so a lone collection month surrounded by current months stands out.
How it shows on your report
Often shown as CO (collection) on TransUnion's key, or a similar collection symbol at other bureaus. Read each bureau's legend, since CO means charge-off in some displays.
How it affects your score
A severe negative month.
What to check
Collection months should follow a run of serious lates, not appear right after current months. Once the account is paid or sold, the grid shouldn't keep adding new collection months with a balance owed to the original lender.
